Today was my first day with my new class of pre-Kindergartner's. You never know what you are going to get on the first day with a new class but it turned out to be a great first day. My birthday.

My birthday was on Monday July 18. I have been given the gift of 33 years so far.
This year my birthday plans did not go quite as planned. My birthday festivities were supposed to start with a day full or roller coaster rides at Six flags. That morning I started the day not feeling well but I tried to tell myself I was alright. I was not alright. I went home with a fever after one ride. A week later and I am still not back to full health.
So I did not have the birthday I planned but the unplanned days have brought me wonderful gifts.

Even though I was too sick to go out on Sunday the 17th I still had a great day. I spent the day napping and watching Harry potter movies all day.

Other things that made me smile for my birthday.

A slice of cheesecake
A little mermaid picture frame
Books I bought for myself. The only books I am allowing myself in my no book buying year.
I was surprised with a homemade Lemon cake with cream cheese frosting from one of my students.
Vinyl figures to get me one step closer to ending up on hoarders.
My mom fixing me an amazing meal of my choice.

I have convinced some of my colleagues to try an eight week art journal challenge. Please feel free to join in.

Jump Start Summer Art Journal Experience

Purpose: To help you connect with your inner artist!

What is an art journal? Artistic pages where the art speaks as much as or instead of words. Create beautiful backgrounds. Doodle, color, paint, paste, create with wild abandon! Silence your inner critic. There are no wrong choices. Enjoy!

Starting July 4 and continuing to August 26 for a total of eight weeks.

Guidelines: You only have to make to an entry of two pages per week.
Each page has a prompt. They are as follows:

Week 1 - The theme is you

Your Hand and five things about yourself - Theme is “you”
Three words - make it as simple or complex as you like

Week 2 - Theme - journey or adventure

Tape layers - put as many pieces of painter’s tape (purple is best), color or paint over it. Take off tape bit by bit and color or paint in the open spaces, take off more tape and color or paint, etc.
Decorate a page incorporating an envelope. Continue the theme of the page with something inside of the envelope.

Week 3 - Theme calm or serenity.

Use your favorite color or color combination.
Use a shape repeatedly.

Week 4 -

Doodle on an entire page.
Do a weather inspired page.

Week 5 -

Journal about things you love.
Journal about things that scare you.

Week 6 -

Journal a scene about your favorite fairy tale or children’s book.
Journal about a recurring dream or a wish you have.

Week 7 -

Use a found object to decorate a page. Any way you like.
Use a favorite song as inspiration for a page.

Week 8 -

Use a collage technique.
Do a self portrait. It may be anything from a stick figure to a professional charcoal drawing.

The rules are: Have fun, don’t be afraid, there are no rules, add or subtract at will. Just see what you can do. You might surprise yourself!

One of my dearest friends got married on Friday June 24, 2011.

So I have the day off from work tomorrow. I am excited and not excited at the same time. I am excited to see someone I care about so much get married. I am not excited because I actually really like my job. I have so much fun there and tomorrow is superhero dress-up day.

I am not reading "Revolution" for my book challenge after all. I didn't realize when I chose it that it was still only in hardcover. no thanks. I chose "Chains" by Laurie Halse Anderson who also wrote the book I just finished.

It's summertime which means lots of kids art post. kids art is my favorite type of art.

Let's talk about books.

First I have been hearing about this book "Go the Fuck to sleep", so I just read it. It is my new favorite book. anyone who has ever tried to get a child to sleep should read this.

I also just finished my third book for my Young adult historical fiction challenge.

My third book was Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson

This has been my favorite book in the challenge so far. There are characters you love. The story doesn't have any slow parts that drag. It's a quick and easy read but very interesting. I loved it!

My next choice is going to be "revolution" By Jennifer Donnelly

It's Monday but it's okay because it is the first day of summer camp. I have so much fun teaching summer camp! We do tons of arts and crafts and you know how much I love kid art. We go on field trips and have splash days where we run through the sprinklers. It's just a good time.

Hi everyone it's been a while. I have been kind of busy.

My students had there graduation on Thursday. They did such a good job. I am so proud of them.

It was good. Target also had Mike and Ike flavored and I think some other flavors but after I saw Hot Tamale I didn't really care what else they had.

It's Friday the 13th. That's good luck for me!

First sign of good luck. I am able to blog. Yeah.

I have had so many things to blog about I don't know where to start.

I have a new favorite word. It can be used in just about any context. It can be positive or negative. It was invented by a very original four year old. The word is Sanana. let me give you some examples of it's use.

Did something really Awesome happen. Sanana!

Is that person not very nice to you. She is Sanana.

You can say it in frustration or exasperation. Sanana.

Is the outfit you just tried on not working. No Sanana.

Go ahead. Try it today.
